Easter Writing Tasks that 4th-6th Grade Students will Actually Like

If you teach 4th-6th grade, you know the struggle…getting students excited about writing can feel like pulling teeth. Whether it’s crafting a story, responding to a prompt, or even just jotting down their thoughts, writing often feels like work to them. So when you announce, “We’re doing a fun Easter writing activity today!” well, let’s just say the enthusiasm might be… limited.

I get it. I’ve been there. That’s why I create writing resources designed specifically to engage older students. I don’t expect them to love every writing task, but I do want them to feel successful. And maybe even enjoy the process!

Why Themed Writing Activities Work

Themed writing activities, like those centered around Easter, can be a great way to shake things up. When writing is tied to a fun holiday or event, students tend to be more open to participating, especially if the activity feels fresh and creative.

For example, rather than simply asking students to “write about Easter,” I like to provide unique, engaging prompts that tap into their imagination.

I just released a set of fresh, engaging Easter writing activities, perfect for keeping students motivated this season. Plus, I’m working on even more resources that will be available in my Teachers Pay Teachers store in the coming weeks.

By using storytelling, humor, and out-of-the-box scenarios, students are more likely to engage with the writing task…without it feeling like another boring assignment.

If you haven’t already, I’d love for you to follow my store so you don’t miss out on new resources.

Writing doesn’t have to be a battle, even for older students. With the right activities, a little creativity, and a fun holiday theme, you might just hear fewer groans and see more engagement in your classroom this Easter season!
